All events (such as accidents, breakdowns, dropped loads, stranded vehicles) that adversely affect or could affect the road capacity and thereby obstruct or could obstruct traffic flow, except breakdowns on the hard shoulder as long as there is an acceptable risk regarding traffic flow and the safety of other traffic.

How is the data collected?

The data in this stream comes from Rijkswaterstaat’s roadside systems and the five regional control applications used for traffic management measures.

Is historical data available?

Yes. Historical incident data is available under certain conditions for NDW partners in the NDW application Dexter. There is no open data application for this data stream.

What are the quality requirements for the data?

Incident reports are DATEXII-compliant. The content quality requirements for this data stream are still being defined and developed.

How can I receive incidents?

This data stream is available on the NDW Open Data Portal as open data under the name incidents.xml.gz. The content of this data stream is updated every minute to the latest state. Users can download the full current state here. (Pull method). For NCIS users, it is also possible to receive only updates after the full current state has been delivered once. (Push method)

How can I connect to the NCIS data stream?

To connect to an NCIS data stream, it is necessary to gain access to the NCIS web portal. From this portal, the user can select the desired end product and configure a number of additional parameters, such as IP address management and reception method.

NDW partners and recipients with a Data & Services agreement can directly connect to NCIS.

How are geographic locations represented?

Location information is recorded per sign (event) based on road number, lane (DVK letter), lane number, and kilometer position. See the NDW Docs page for the exact details. Additionally, NDW provides a shapefile every month, in which the location information of the signs is processed into GPS coordinates, allowing the sign data to be mapped to a network or map. This shapefile can be downloaded from the NDW Open Data Portal.

For NDW partners and recipients, the mijn.ndw.nu portal is available, where users can find information about current disruptions. Users can also subscribe to NDW service notifications, which actively notify users of major disruptions in one of NDW’s services.
